Rainverse Wiki:Bureaucrat Local Election 2024-04-18

From Rainverse Wiki

The election has closed. The conclusion was to make 183231bcb, AvgHelper, and BlankEclair bureaucrats.

Synopsis[edit]

Rainverse Wiki currently lacks an active bureaucrat. The goal of this request for comment is to elect new bureaucratic.

Current Status[edit]

Rainverse Wiki began on Fandom. It was abandoned by its original editing community and the Fandom version is now inactive. AwesomeGamerX requested the creation of a fork on Miraheze, which was accepted on 2024 March 8. AwesomeGamerX became the first and only bureaucrat on the Miraheze version of the wiki.

After creating the Miraheze fork, AwesomeGamerX largely withdrew from the community. He has made a total of one edit to the main namespace since forking the wiki. He dropped out of both official Rainverse Discords, and indicated to 183231bcb in DMs a lack of interest in remaining in the community. His last action on the wiki was to make 183231bcb an admin, but not a bureaucrat. He has not responded to 183231bcb's DM request to make someone else a bureaucrat.

The Solution[edit]

183231bcb believe there should be at least two active bureaucrats: both to reduce the power held by a single person and to ensure someone is active in case one bureaucrat abruptly exits the project. We have three active editors. As the sole active admin, 183231bcb is calling a local election for replacement bureaucrats and nominating all three editors.

The Nominees[edit]

In alphabetical order, our active editors and candidates for bureaucrat are:

Beth is currently the only active admin, as well as the person in control of the wiki's fediverse account and matrix room. She is nominating herself for the same of completeness. However, she has fewer edits than either of the other two nominees, and fewer relevant technical skills.

AvgHelper owns the domain rainverse.wiki, and she has made many important contributions in the past month.

BlankEclair has made a lot of very significant contributions to the wiki since joining, including creating a lot of necessary articles and importing all images from Fandom.

Voting[edit]

Please list your votes here. You can vote for zero, one, two, or all three nominees: if the majority support making a particular candidate a bureaucrat, then that candidate will become a bureaucrat regardless of how many other candidates gain a majority support. For example, if everybody votes for all three candidates, then we will have three bureaucrats.

I vote for all three candidates, with my vote for myself tentative. 183231bcb (talk) 03:23, 18 April 2024 (UTC)

Just a question: What will you do with bureaucrat? I would like it documented on this page, as mh:meta:Local elections#Elections on wikis with inactive bureaucrats says "For best results, the following conditions should apply: [...] The nominee should have a clear and specific idea of what they wish to do with the rights. A general or vague will to 'improve the wiki' will not suffice." - BlankEclair (talk) 06:16, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
If elected, the first things I will do are to add interwiki prefixes and make some needed changes to ManageWiki (including disabling the automatic linking to Wikimedia Commons images). I will also use the WikiSEO extension to submit our wiki to the big search engines. 183231bcb (talk) 00:04, 19 April 2024 (UTC)

Support I likewise vote for all three candidates, with my vote for myself tentative. AvgHelper (talk) 05:14, 18 April 2024 (UTC)

Good point. I don't have any experience with MediaWiki, but I do have general technical knowledge that I will use in a maintenance role. I want to be helpful in the ongoing reorganization efforts, especially with regards to the namespacing of pages based on relevant webcomic. The easier it is for readers to find here what they're looking for, the better. More than that, I don't know MediaWiki well enough yet to know specifically, but I am eager to learn!  Support for all three candidates, tentatively voting for myself too. Due to the lack of an active bureaucrat, the wiki is in a slight state of unmaintainability. For example, ManageWiki is required for enabling Extension:TemplateStyles (a feature that is used by imported templates (such as {{RfC}}) and a feature that I would like to use on {{Talk}}) and Extension:WikiSEO (wanted by 183231bcb[1]), and it is required to edit the interwiki prefixes (according to mh:meta:Interwiki, wanted by 183231bcb[2]). Personally, I would like bureaucrat to help around with 'crat-only technical tasks on the wiki such as enabling extensions (I do not have prior MediaWiki experience, but I do have general technical knowledge as I am a hobbyist programmer). Having bureaucrat also implicitly gives me administrator, which I would like to use to import templates when needed (these would need to be requested to Beth otherwise: [3][4]), and to fight against vandalism when it occurs (this luckily has not happened yet) - BlankEclair (talk) 06:16, 18 April 2024 (UTC)

Result[edit]

Hello, I am Steward and was asked to adjudicate this election. A vote was taken among the parties involved, but since they are the only community members, I decided to approve this. If you need to contact me/Stewards regarding this election, please m:User_talk:1108-Kiju. Thanks, --1108-Kiju (talk) 03:34, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
