Rain:314: Insufferable

Synopsis

Author Notes

Although there have been a lot of scenes in Rain’s home these past few chapters, her lovable pet rabbit, Puddle, has been absent much of the time. Probably left playing or snoozing in her room while Rain was trying to contend with Aiken. I guess since I disrupt typical webcomic convention by just having her pet be a totally normal animal, and not a flying, wise-cracking, magic-using familiar of some sort, it becomes a bit harder to use Puddle as a “character”. I decided when starting this chapter that I was going to make a very sociable bunny that likes people, and have Rain bring him out to party with them. Why? ‘Cause he’s cute. Don’t even try to resist his charm. XD

Fara talks a bit about the other parent characters here too. We all know Maria and Rudy’s folks are behind the times by about 50-60 years, but uh… “homosex”? Like much of the humor involving their parents, it’s meant to be funny, but there’s this nagging feeling of “Are these people effing serious?” This is not a researched thing, for the record. I don’t know if anyone actually says that, but “homosex” (as in, sex as acted upon by two homosexuals, of course), sounds like the kind of inane thing that might come out of a homophobe’s mouth.

The final panel is actually a reference to something that happened WAY back in Chapter 4. Really, Gavin meant it as a little white lie to get his mom off of his case, but he never thought that was going to get back to Fara. Lucky for him, she’s such a good sport.

Ah! So cute!
Can I hold him?
I'm so glad you decided to go "boy mode" tonight. We were going to be totally outnumbered otherwise.
I... don't know how to respond to that.
Thank for having us over, Ms. Bryer.
You can call me Fara. It's okay. And no problem.
Out of curiosity, how'd you manage to convince Maria and Rudy's folks to let them to come here?
Oh, god, those people are insufferable. No offense, guys.
None taken.
None taken.
I don't know what they take me for, or how old they think their kids are. But I had to promise to watch you all 100% of the time to make sure there would be - and I quote - "no sex or homosex". Because I guess that's a word now.
Incidentally, your mom wasn't much better. She kept asking if I was going to get drunk and violent? Any idea what that might be about?
That's an excellent question. I'm gonna go over there now.
