Rain:438: Cis?

(Redirected from 438:Cis?)

Synopsis

Gavin tells Ana he's the odd one out among his friends because they're all queer and he's not. Ana claims not to know what the word cis means. She also reveals she is over 18 but lost a year's worth of schooling due to moving a lot.

Author Notes

Cisgender or cis (which describes a person whose gender identity matches their physical anatomy) doesn’t seem to be a very widely used term outside of the trans community. I often get that reaction when I say it. Gavin would out his friends if he’d finished saying “straight,” but cis doesn’t mean much to a lot of people. Just an observation on my part…

I’ve mentioned this several times throughout the comic in my blurbs, but someone will still ask what the collars mean here. They represent what grade the student is in. 9th Grade – Red (Chanel, Brett) 10th Grade – Orange (Rudy) 11th Grade – Green (Ana, Todd) 12th Grade – Blue (Rain, Maria, Gavin, Emily, most of the rest of the cast)

Just to clarify, of course. In fairness, this IS the first time I address it within the pages themselves. I shouldn’t be surprised people ask.

And I like my friends. But I am a bit of an odd man out among them.
I'm pretty sure I'm one of the only totally cis and str... Wait, that's not really for me to say. My point is, I love those guys. I just don't have the same concerns as them. I'm broadening my horizons.
..."Cis?" Um... what is-?
Ah... don't worry about it.
But where are your friends? You seem friendly with everyone, but here you are, sitting alone at lunch.
I just don't like to get too close. I move a lot, you know.
How much is a lot?
Let's put it this way. How old are you?
Mm? I just turned 18 last month. Why?
I'm a month older than you, and yet a grade under. I lost a full year of school last year from all the moving. Now I've got to catch up. Hence the junior year collar.
