Rain:559: Winter Break

(Redirected from 559:Winter Break)

Synopsis

The main cast get through their last week of school before break. Ky prepares to meet up with Drew, Rain and Chanel talk about manga and anime, and Rudy reads a webcomic called Snow.

Author Notes

I've said this a couple times before, but people still ask, so I'm just going to reiterate: Winter Break is not the same thing as Christmas vacation.  For me, in both my private and public school experience, there is a week long vacation that occurs sometime in the middle of February. Something, I guess, to break up the school year between Christmas vacation and Spring Break.  Based on responses to this in the past, I guess it's not a thing everyone had.  But I assure you, it's an actual thing that some schools just do.

Anyway, so the week long break begins... and flies by.  I love doing these kinds of pages though.  It might just be because I recently played Persona 4 Golden (and am currently playing DanganRonpa 2), but it reminds me of Social Links/Free Time watching Rain hanging out with her friends individually one day after another like this. XD

Sunday sees her with Ky alluding to a future meetup with Drew.

Monday, she and Gavin fail to beat Fighter Frogs again.  What else is new, right?

Tuesday involves her and Chanel discussing favorite anime/manga.  Maria meanwhile, can't help but be impressed that her two quietest friends are outtalking her.  She's into it, but perhaps not quite to the level they are.

Wednesday is my favorite, because it marks the first time I've done something a little different depending on whether you're reading the comic on DeviantArt, SmackJeeves or Comic Fury (please note, if you're following the comic through Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr; you're reading the comic on DeviantArt).  It's just a subtle difference.  You won't be missing anything if you don't check out the other sites, but I've always wanted to do something like this since the very beginning, even if it's just this once.  ^_^

Finally, we get to the inevitable slow day, which is in this case, Thursday.  Just one of those days when all your other friends have something else going on (vacation homework, family matters, chores, etc).  For Rain, that means a quiet day around the apartment, playing something on her Yuu Us, while the bunny climbs all over her.  Oh, hey, I guess Jessica's home too.

Transcript

Sunday:

So, I'm meeting up with that Drew guy from your school later this week. I don't know if it's a date or not, but I've never been on one, so just in case: is there anything I should know about dating?
Yep. First rule: I'm not the best person to ask for dating advice.

Monday:

Can we just watch the ending online and say we beat it?
I would rather not go that route... but it is pretty tempting.

Tuesday:

I'm not saying Kaminari's bad. I just prefer the more action-driven pace of Pandora.
But Kaminari has action too! There's just more emphasis on a compelling storyline.

Maria is feeling a little outgeeked
Wednesday:

Hey, Rain. Ever hear of "Snow"? It's this webcomic on Bland Site I think you'd like. The main character kinda reminds me of you.

Thursday:

Oh, Rain. Didn't expect to see you home. I've barely seen you all week. Having a fun break, I take it?
Yeah. Everyone's busy today though. Go figure the last day before we leave for the con is going to be the longest day. The wait is killing me.

Variations

Each edition of Rain has Rudy name a different Bland-Name Product corresponding to the platform where the page is found. This page marks the only time the comic's dialogue varies depending on where you read the comic.

On Deviantart, Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr, Rudy names misfitArt:

Hey, Rain. Ever hear of "Snow"? It's this webcomic on misfitArt I think you'd like. The main character kinda reminds me of you.

On SmackJeeves, Rudy names SlapJenkins:

Hey, Rain. Ever hear of "Snow"? It's this webcomic on SlapJenkins I think you'd like. The main character kinda reminds me of you.

On ComicFury, Rudy names Comic Ire:

Hey, Rain. Ever hear of "Snow"? It's this webcomic on Comic Ire I think you'd like. The main character kinda reminds me of you.

In the print edition (page 17), Rudy does not name a specific platform:

Hey, Rain. Ever hear of "Snow"? It's this webcomic online I think you'd like. The main character kinda reminds me of you.
