Rain:564: About Them

(Redirected from 564:About Them)

Synopsis

Emily asks Rain about Kellen and Aiken. Rain reveals she doesn't know them very well, but she does want their approval. Emily assures Rain she will be in Rain's corner the whole time.

Author Notes

As a youngest sibling by a lot myself, I can vouch that it's possible to not really know your brothers or sisters well if the age gap is wide enough.  It probably didn't help that growing up, I was very super secretive and distant so my family wouldn't catch on to my gender dysphoria (kinda like how Rain grew up).

Honestly though, since coming out to them last year, I don't think we've ever been closer.  But that's me.

On a related note, I probably should have asked this sooner, but what are they like? Is there anything I should know going in?
I mean, you know, besides the whole "struggling to cope with your identity" Thing.
Besides that? Hm. Let's see.
Kellen's pretty nosy. She'll probably ask a lot of questions and nag about petty little things.
And Aiken has kind of a short fuse. He can be nice, but when he gets upset, everyone knows it.
Uh, okay. Are there any not so negative qualities worth hearing about?
They're twins!
You don't really know them that well, do you?
Well, they're a lot older than me. And they both moved out as soon as they finished high school. I just... didn't interact with them all that much growing up.
That... sucks.
At the risk of sounding cold: why do you care so much what they think of you? I mean, it sounds like they're little more than acquaintances to you. You don't NEED their approval.
I know. And you're probably right.
But, I mean... they're family. I may not need their approval, but I do want it. I don't have a lot of family, so it'll be worth it if I can earn their love and acceptance, you know?
Mm. Yeah. All too well.
Well, I do hope it works out for you. Just remember I'll be in your corner the entire time. If you need me to say or do anything, just say the word.
Thank you Emily.
