Chiaki finds her photo of Fumiko in the middle of the night and cries

Last page of 2022. Seems like a gut-punchingly good page to close on.

This was almost the end of Chapter 1 too, if I'm being honest. This is going to be a long first chapter and we're not even halfway yet. Also, the setting and pace will change a bit for the rest of it. But as it's all mostly still going to be a lot of introductory stuff, it feels right to keep all of this as one chapter.

I know some of you have been impatiently waiting for some of the other characters too. Don't worry, we'll be meeting them soon enough. I just wanted to focus on Chiaki's plight specifically to start us off.

So I hope you're enjoying things so far, and I look forward to sharing more with you next time! ^_^

Nara Kendry:

Anyway, here’s the guest room. You’ve had a crazy day so please get as much rest as you need. If you need anything, kitchen’s down the hall to your right. Bathroom’s on the left. And my room’s right across the hall.

Chiaki Koizumi:

Thank you for everything, Kendry-san.

Nara Kendry:

Just Nara is fine, thank you.

Chiaki Koizumi:

Sorry. I’ll try my best!

Nara Kendry:

Good night, Chiaki.

Chiaki Koizumi:

Good night, Nara-san.

Nara Kendry:

Eh. I’ll take it.

Chiaki is thinking to herself:

Chiaki Koizumi:
Unfortunately, it was anything but a good night. I tossed and turned in bed for hours. It may have been one of the longest nights of my life.

Chiaki Koizumi:
I kept thinking, “maybe if I sleep, I’ll wake up in my bed back home in the morning.” Not that I had any basis for this.

Chiaki Koizumi:

I wonder...

Chiaki checks her bag, and pulls out a piece of paper

Chiaki Koizumi:

I-it’s still there.

Chiaki Koizumi:

Fumiko...

Chiaki is holding an image of her and Fumiko.
Chiaki is smiling, then begins to cry
