MIS:54: Stories

Synopsis

Chiaki resolves to work up to being able to read the book she found earlier, called The Legend of the Prophet, Lilith. She tells Nagisa that she's interested in the concept from the title, and begins to gush a little to Nagisa about her interests back home. Nagisa finds Chiaki fascinating.

Author Notes

Exactly the cleanser we needed after that last page. ^_^

I like this little interaction a lot. In the first chapter, Chiaki's initial conversations with Nagisa focused more on factual information being relayed, or Nagisa's own tragic past, or Chiaki's plight in coming to this world. Today, though, it feels like they're really starting to bond a little over their interests.

Nagisa's a curious person and eager to learn new things, and Chiaki's super otaku and itching to at least be able to gush about the things she likes, even if she's in a world where she can't read/watch/play them right now.

Flashbacks include Chiaki explaining Single Payload (One Piece) to Fumiko at a convention center (it's almost impossible to see, but I based the book she's holding on Volume 14 of the manga, which would've been the last one to come out before she isekai'd). And in the next one, Chiaki's dad makes his debut in the story to give her a copy of Finished Fabrication 6 (Final Fantasy 6).

And while Chiaki has some reservations about opening up given her history of being teased by Fumiko's friends, Nagisa just seems so excited!

So, what is this one?
This is The Legend of the Prophet, Lilith. But it might be a little advanced for someone who can't read at all.
Oh well. Maybe I'll work myself up to it. It sounds cool.
Yeah! Words like "legend" or "prophecy" are always going to draw my attention. I always loved gam-
Well, stories. I love stories like that. I've got to stop doing that...
Do you have Legends and Prophets in your world?
N-no. Nothing like I'm gonna guess you're thinking. Just... fiction.
My world doesn't have magic or demi-humans or demons or heroes or prophecies.
We have some of the same appliances, I guess. But compared to all this, my world is really kinda boring.
But we have stories about magic stuff. And I love those stories more than most things! But for us, it's all just made up.
Um... I hope this isn't asking too much, but would you...
Would you tell me some of those stories from your world?
I'll teach you to read in our world, and in return, you can share stories from yours.
Wha!? You really wanna hear about boring things from my world?

Chiaki is thinking to herself:

It's true I don't get many opportunities to gush about the things I like unless it's with Fumiko or my dad. And neither of them are here. I'd really love to still be able to talk about it all with someone, but...
I don't know Nagisa-san well yet, and I have a hard time reading her. Even more than most people. I can't tell if she's actually interested in my ramblings...
...Or am I just afraid of it being a trap like...
I'm sorry. I didn't mean to startle you. You just... you kinda go quiet sometimes, and I can't quite tell what you're thinking.
Anyway, I don't think it'll be boring. You... you don't have to share if you don't want, but I'd love to learn more about you. I find you to be a rather fascinating person, Chiaki.

Chiaki is thinking to herself:

Fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fascinating!?
