MIS:66: Wind Magic

Synopsis

Nagisa and Chiaki return from Chiaki's alignment reading. To her dismay, she does not yet know how to use magic.

Author Notes

Chiaki and Nagisa at last arrive at Golem Hall. It's been maybe an hour tops in comic time (if that) since we last saw her at the end of Chapter 2. Chiaki learned right at the end that she's Wind-aligned, and is just now very unceremoniously announcing that she's staying unsealed to learn to use it.

And hey, she's seen it done in video games. It should be easy, right? Just copy what they do. The "spell names" and casting poses are all wind-based spells from Final Fantasy, Persona, and Dragon Quest respectively. The last one is slightly cheating as it's inspired by Jessica's casting pose in DQ8 (which wouldn't be out yet for her). Given the available material, though, it felt like it was the best I could do.

Alas, it doesn't work. The potential is there, but the magic just isn't happening yet. Not today, at least. Oh well, I'm sure she'll get there. ^_^

Transcript

Hey, ladies! How’d it go?
I’m apparently Wind-aligned. And I’m staying unsealed.
Whoa! Congrats! Have you cast a spell yet?
Unfortunately, she doesn’t know how. We took the long road outside the building because Chiaki wanted to try something, but she couldn’t get it to work.
Though I admit I still don't really understand what was happening out there.

Flashback:

Did I move that leaf!? Did I use Wind magic?
I... I think that’s an actual breeze, Chiaki. Not magic.
Long story short: I guess I need a tutor.
I guess so.
