Rain:29: Doctor's Note

Synopsis

Ellen Parker explains to Fara that Rain will have to be in her gym class unless Fara can get a doctor's note attesting to Rain's asthma. Fara worries she won't be able to do so due to doctors being likely to use Rain's legal name, so Fara whacks Ellen again.

Author Notes

You know, this is probably the most “action” to appear in this comic to date. ^_^

For all of her teasing, there’s probably nobody who cares more about Rain than Aunt Fara. You really kinda can’t blame her for getting upset anyway. It’s frustrating to hear someone speak ill of or make accusations toward someone you care about. It’s even more frustrating when their remarks are completely wrong and baseless. And then it’s downright infuriating when you can’t even tell them why they’re wrong in the effort of keeping a secret. Metaphorically speaking, Mrs. Parker was walking blindly into a lion’s den and stepping on every tail along the way; she didn’t know it, but she kinda had it coming.

And don’t worry, Mrs. Parker will be fine. It’s just a rolled-up, poster-size piece of paper (Fara’s student’s homework). Aunt Fara wasn’t trying to hurt her, after all… just shut her up.

As a side note, it was entirely unintentional, but the pairing of these two characters reminds me vaguely of Yukari and Nyamo from Azumanga Daioh (possibly due to the dramatic poster slap). Mrs. Parker wasn’t originally meant to be that important of a character, but I think I’d like to explore more of this dynamic in the future. ^_^

Transcript

Uh, much to my shame it's just Ms. Bryer, actually.
But I guess I can't judge since your name escapes me too at the moment.
Ellen Parker. I work in the Phys. Ed department.
I'm here to ask about Rain Flaherty. You're her guardian, right?
So what's wrong with her?
You requested that she not participate in gym class due to asthma, but with no doctor's note, Father Quenton stuck her in my class.
Ah, shit...
If Rain's asthma really is that bad, I should be able to reverse that as soon as I see a doctor's note.
Ugh... No doctor is going to write "Rain" down.
There's not much I can do otherwise. But personally, my son has asthma too, but he's even on a team...
Well, "La-di-da" for your son, not having a soul crushing gender dysphoria.
...so I'm wondering how bad it really is, or if maybe Rain is just making up excuses to get her way.
...... ...... ......

Fara whacks Ellen with a poster

Sorry. My hand must have slipped. Anyway, just take Rain for now. it'll probably be a while before I can get that note.
