Rain:Rain Delay 20

Synopsis

What if Emily was actually very into anime already? And what would Ryan and Emily's sleeping arrangements in Kellen's apartment be like?

Author Notes

Rain Delay: goofy little gag comics to keep you entertained while I work on the legit stuff. Remember, Chapter 26 begins next Wednesday, July 15th. ^_^

Today's installments revolve moreso around Chapter 23 and 24 scenes. I didn't do any Delays during that time, but I figured it'd still be okay to include them. Better late than never, right?

Watashi wa Emily desu

Unlike Rain and a lot of her other friends, Emily's SO not a geek. But for some reason, the thought of Emily turning out to actually be closet hardcore weeaboo when put in the right setting cracked me up.

Just as strange as fiction

The joke with any "Ryan: The Totally Normal Guy" skit is basically always the same. Take a scene that was complicated and dramatic and dealt with the difficulties of being trans, and show how they become total non-issues when the magic of cis privilege is involved. This situation actually ended up being resolved fairly easily in canon. And yet I couldn't help but look at the scene again and think it would probably be no less complicated for a cis guy. Maybe it'd be even more complicated. Two teenage girls sharing a room and bed? Socially, that'd just be seen as a sleepover. A teenage boy and girl sharing a room and bed? Indecent!! That's raging hormones waiting to wreak havoc! I know and you know there are counter points revolving around the teenagers' orientations, but I'm just talking about how the average cis het non-ally person might see it... which is to say, they'd still think it was awkward. In the end, it's still kinda social commentary.

Also, short-hair Rain won't have hair like Ryan. Just in case anyone was wondering. ;P

Transcript

At the top is the title "RAIN DELAY". There are two sections; the left is titled "Watashi wa Emily desu", and it contains:

Hey, do you like anime or manga at all, Emily?
I dunno. Maybe a little, I guess.
Wanna come to a con with me?

Day of the convention:

We're here, Emily!
Aaaa! Kawaii desu! I love this so much! I think I might buy three! Isn't anime amazing, Rain-chan!?
You're scaring me, Emily.
Baka! I told you to call me Onee-sama.

To the right is a section titled "Just as strange as fiction". It reads:

"Introducing... The Adventures of Ryan: The Totally Normal Guy"

Any Ryanily shippers out there? No? Anyone?
Wait, wait. You brought your pregnant girlfriend with you to visit family, and you expect to just share a room... and a bed!?
Oh, we're not dating.
Yeah. Someone else got me pregnant.
Yeah. This is normally the part where there'd be some tongue-in-cheek observation of how cis privilege would negate the drama of the normal comic... but yeah, cis or trans, this is still weird.
