Rainbow:Dragon Rain 13: Hands

Synopsis

Rain dies in Hyper Bash Kin, and explains that the transformation of her hands are forcing her to relearn how to game.

Well, of course she likes having a dress with pockets, Gavin. She's a dragon. She needs those pockets to collect things for her hoard. Duh! XD

Remember how those last couple pages were smaller tangential ideas that blew up to be something a little bigger? Well, this was an already kind of involved page idea that also blew up. I wanted to showcase Rain experiencing new difficulties with something she enjoys. And I had this idea of her and her friends playing Super Smash Br- I mean, playing Hyper Bash Kin together and her suddenly not being able to control the game quite right. I even ended up doing a mini-poll on Discord a few weeks ago to determine the characters I'd use (though I didn't say what it was for).

It was already an involved idea, but I still wanted a real life segment outside the game to address the situation. And while I originally thought I could split this into two updates, there really didn't feel like a natural stopping point, so I just kept going. XD

I'm pretty happy with this overall, and this is definitely my favorite stage of Rain's dragon transition so far (10 months or so). There's something that feels shockingly natural about drawing her like this. "Like, of course this is what she looks like. I've always drawn her with fangs and horns and scales and wings and a tail, haven't I? What do you think Rain looks like?" It's fitting, really, because that's how I feel about trans characters after they come out and start presenting as themselves too.

Same idea, but with dragons. XD

Ryan Dixon:
Is something on your mind, Rain?
Liriel Rain Bryer:
No. Why do you ask?

Rain has just died. Ryan and Ky are standing on a large platform, while Gavin is standing above on a smaller platform.

Ryan Dixon:
Because you've been moseying off the stage when no one's anywhere near you a lot today.
Ky(lie) Coven:
Yeah. You're usually a lot better than this. No offense.

Rain respawns

Liriel Rain Bryer:
Heh. Sorry. It's not that I have something on my mind...

Rain falls, again

Ky(lie) Coven:
And off she goes again.

PLAYER 1 DEFEATED

Gavin Kurz:
...It's something on your hands, right?

Gavin, Rain, and Ryan are now sitting on a couch holding controllers, and Ky is sitting on the floor. Rain has small wings.

Liriel Rain Bryer:
Y-yeah. Something like that.
Ky(lie) Coven:
Are they just... bigger? Sorry if that's weird to ask.
Liriel Rain Bryer:
You're fine. It's not even like my hands have grown a lot.
Liriel Rain Bryer:
But I think I'm getting stronger, and I'm applying more pressure to the buttons than I realize, leading to accidental presses.
Liriel Rain Bryer:
Plus my claw hits other buttons than what my thumb presses.
Gavin Kurz:
That's kinda rough. Are you not going to be able to game anymore?
Liriel Rain Bryer:
I don't know if it's quite that extreme, but I might have to relearn some things.
Ryan Dixon:
Every transition has its pros and cons, huh?

Rain has a visible tail.

Liriel Rain Bryer:
Yeah. And this is frustrating, but it still isn't as bad as losing functioning pockets.
Liriel Rain Bryer:
I’m grateful to at least have Maria on my side, equipping me with some nice dragon hand sized pockets.

Maria in Rain's mind:

Maria Strongwell:
I got chu, girl!
Gavin Kurz:
Leave it to Rain to grow actual wings and a tail, just to gush about her dress having pockets.

Ky and Ryan are smiling, giving each other a grin.
