Template:Infobox character
Usage
Simply fill these fields out as best as you can:
{{Infobox character | title = | image = | full name = | pronouns = | aliases = | relatives = | relationship = | species = | add species cat = | gender = | add gender cat = | eyes = | affiliation = | birthDate = | auto celebrate birthday = | deathDate = | deathPlace = | age = | height = | romantic = | add romantic cat = | sexuality = | add sexuality cat = | poly = | alignment = | add alignment cat = | introduced = | portrayedby = }}
Title
The title
parameter defaults to the page's title if not specified; therefore, this usually does not need to be added.
Relatives (relatives
)
The relatives field should contain their biological family, in-laws, current partners, and former partners if there is not an excessive count or if they are particularly important to the plot.[1]
Relationship status (relationship
)
The relationship status field should only mention the character's relationship status and who they are with at the end of the story,[2] such as "Married to Emily".
Species (species
)
For Rain characters, the species field should be "Human" or "XYZ Rabbit".
For My Impossible Soulmate characters, the species field should be one of:[3][4]
- Holo-human
- Unbound holo-human
- One of the various demi-human subspecies, such as Nereid or Bastet
- Unbound <insert one of the various demi-human subspecies here>
- Demon (formerly holo-human)
- Demon (previously holo-human)
- Demon (<one of the various demi-human subspecies>)
Date of birth/death (birthDate
, deathDate
)
The date of birth and date of death parameters are reformatted to the reader's date preference. For this to work, <ref> tags must be placed after the date (not in the middle), and the date must be machine parsable.
Automatically celebrate birthday (auto celebrate birthday
)
Whether or not the character's birthday will be celebrated on the main page. For now, this should be false only for non-canon characters.[5]
Romantic attraction (romantic
)
The romantic attraction field should be blank unless if the character's sexuality does not match their romantic attraction (such as Chanel).
Sexual orientation (sexuality
)
The sexual orientation field should not use the terms Straight or Gay, but Heterosexual and Homosexual (or other sexuality such as Bisexual and Pansexual) instead.[6]
Polyamorous? (poly
)
The polyamorous status field should be one of:
- Yes
- No
- (any other value or lack there of)
References may be added (such as in Ky(lie) Coven). Specifying Yes or No will also lead to automatic categorization of Category:Polyamorous characters or Category:Monogamous characters. This currently cannot be disabled, but ask if it needs to be.
Alignment (alignment
)
The alignment field (currently only applicable to My Impossible Soulmate) should be in the format of one of the following bullet points:[7]
- XYZ (sealed)
- XYZ (unsealed)
- XYZ (former)
- XYZ
For example:
- Fire (sealed)
- Wind (unsealed)
- Spirit (former)
- Frost
Add species/gender/romantic/sexuality/alignment category (add species cat
, add gender cat
, add romantic cat
, add sexuality cat
, add alignment cat
)
These parameters will automatically add the categories named by the species/gender/romantic/sexuality/alignment field (with wikitext removed if present), and is automatically set to yes
by default. If this is causing problems (such as in Drew), specifically set it to no
or false
and add the category manually if relevant.
add gender cat
also affects whether or not the gender is set in the characters Cargo table.

As discussed in the Rainverse Wiki Matrix room:
- (link) AvgHelper: Depends how much we wanna fill out that tree ig. Do we list every friend under "relations"? Or limit that to family and SO?
- (link) 1something: I'd say the latter to avoid listing the entire main cast in every infobox.
- (link) BlankEclair: i suppose biological family, maybe *-in-laws, former SOs, and current SO(s)
- (link) AvgHelper: I think formers might be out of scope, rather like friends or acquaintances are, but we can list them too if there aren't too many cases imo (edit: or if the formers are particularly important to the plot or something. Otherwise, they can maybe go in a paragraph under "History" for the character or something.)

As discussed in the Rainverse Wiki Matrix room:
- (link) BlankEclair: how granular should "Marital status" be in the infobox? on one end of the spectrum, https://rainverse.wiki/wiki/Rain_(Character) lists out her entire dating experience, while https://rainverse.wiki/wiki/Ana is probably the vaguest thing ever
- (link) 1something: My preference would be to make it less granular and only base it on their status at the end of the story. It might also make sense to change it to "Relationship Status," since that seems to be what it was used for.(This message was ๐ฏ-ed by AvgHelper)
- (link) BlankEclair: okay, should it also specify who they're with?
- (link) 1something: Maybe, although in some cases that could get redundant with "family" in some cases.

As discussed in the Rainverse Wiki Matrix room:
- (link) BlankEclair: in Template:Infobox character, should "Unbound" be a part of the species field?
- (link) AvgHelper: Not sure if this was ever answered, but I think so. Unbound is kindof a boolean status anyway, and idk how best to represent that in the infobox other than the way Lynn's character sheets do it, right next to species
- (link) AvgHelper: Thinking about this now cause I just made category pages for the known MIS species, and it'd be nice for the infobox to be able to add the right categories somehow. I don't have the faintest clue where to start on that tho, since that same field also has to handle things like Puddle and earth humans ๐
- (link) AvgHelper: rn, Harley, Chiaki, Verity, and Nagisa have manual species categories. I could go through and do the rest, but idk what our plans are
- (link) AvgHelper: The alignment and sealing categories work magically! Those are super handy ^^
- (link) BlankEclair: ty i was waiting for a response(This message was ๐-ed by AvgHelper)
- (link) BlankEclair: what about demons? should we list whether they're holo or demi?
- (link) AvgHelper: Hmm
- (link) AvgHelper: If we have that info, then probs should include it
- (link) AvgHelper: ooh, it is kindof a "former" thing tho, isn't it?
- (link) BlankEclair: ye
- (link) BlankEclair: demi demons retain their animalistic features tho
- (link) BlankEclair: source: blurb of 53: Corruption (iirc)
- (link) AvgHelper: right
- (link) AvgHelper: so low-key current then ig
- (link) BlankEclair: now, what format
- (link) AvgHelper: Bee-chan is in the Spirit-aligned category, so for consistency she should probs go in holo-human too
- (link) BlankEclair: Demon (formerly {holo,demi}-human)?
- (link) BlankEclair: demi humans can use magic too
- (link) AvgHelper: Can they? I thought that was locked after corruption
- (link) BlankEclair: i mean, current demi humans can
demons can't - (link) AvgHelper: Ohhhhh
- (link) AvgHelper: me mixing words again lol
- (link) AvgHelper: sgtm
- (link) BlankEclair: hmm, demon and former {holo,demi}-humans categories?
- (link) AvgHelper: idk
- (link) BlankEclair: or should they go into the {holo,demi}-humans cat too
- (link) AvgHelper: I'd say regular {holo,demi}-humans cat for now. I kinda want to see more demon characters in canon before i have a good grasp on how to categorize
- (link) AvgHelper: We really only know Bee-chan rn, yeah?
- (link) BlankEclair: true
- (link) BlankEclair: wait, for demis do we go Demi-human (bastet)?
- (link) AvgHelper: Hmmmmmmmm
- (link) AvgHelper: idk
- (link) BlankEclair: if so, then what about Demon (former demi-human, bastet)
- (link) AvgHelper: aaa complicated
- (link) BlankEclair: i gotta think of all the edge cases before writing the module(This message was ๐ฏ-ed by 1something and AvgHelper)
- (link) AvgHelper: I kinda wanna follow the character sheets. So like, species like Bastet, Nereid, etc imply "demi-human", and holo-human is a species also
- (link) AvgHelper: As for demon formers, i personally don't how to do that until we see more in canon
- (link) AvgHelper: So we could have them just "demon" and maybe extra info in parens that the module would ignore (in terms of category generation)?
- (link) AvgHelper: so like, maybe no dedicated demi-human category for now
- (link) BlankEclair: sure
- (link) BlankEclair: should "Humans" be added for *-humans?
- (link) AvgHelper: Probably. All the *-human species are subsets of human afaik

As discussed in the Rainverse Wiki Matrix room:
- (link) BlankEclair: also, that puts into question how we categorize demons
- (link) BlankEclair:
- (link) BlankEclair: like, should we classify him as both Demon and Skyfolk?
- (link) AwesomeGamerX: Maybe.
- (link) BlankEclair: what about corrupted holos? Demon and Holo-human? or just Demon?
- (link) AwesomeGamerX: (In reply to "what about corrupted holos? ...") Holo and demon.
- (link) BlankEclair: and what format should the species field be? "Demon (formerly skyfolk)" and "Demon (formerly holo-human)"?
- (link) AwesomeGamerX: That can work.
- (link) BlankEclair: alright ^_^
- (link) BlankEclair: waiting for comments from average or beth before i implement this
- (link) AvgHelper: (In reply to "and what format should...") I thought we were doing this already ๐
- (link) AvgHelper: But yeah, that seems reasonable to me
- (link) BlankEclair: just want clarification
- (link) AvgHelper: Unless we get verbiage later in the comic that's like "he's still skyfolk" or smth..
- (link) BlankEclair: i mean
- (link) BlankEclair: his wings do work
- (link) AvgHelper: Hmm, maybe the "formerly" part should be optional then?
- (link) BlankEclair: "Demon (skyfolk)" and "Demon (formerly holo-human)"?
- (link) AvgHelper: Sure
- (link) BlankEclair: former for holo, no former for demi
- (link) BlankEclair: ight cool
- (link) BlankEclair: (In reply to "like, should we classify him as both Demon and Skyfolk?") erm, i forgot that we have a Humans category
- (link) BlankEclair: should demons go under both Demon and Humans?
- (link) AvgHelper: iirc demons are considered "formerly" human
- (link) AvgHelper: so probs not
- (link) BlankEclair: so i suppose no Humans, but only Holo-humans and Demi-humans?
- (link) AvgHelper: mmm yeah i guess so
- (link) AvgHelper: the more specific classification seems useful imo
- (link) BlankEclair: oops we use "previously holo-human" and "previously skyfolk"
- (link) BlankEclair: now what term is better, previously or former ๐คฃ
- (link) AvgHelper: i like formerly better
- (link) AvgHelper: but i'd probs flip flop between them, lol
- (link) BlankEclair: and should demons be categorized as "Demon" or "Demons"
- (link) AvgHelper: The other species categories use singular, but the *-humans ones use plural ๐ค
- (link) AvgHelper: We could keep the pattern and have the *-human categories plural, so Demon singular, but that feels odd to have a few categories stand out like that
- (link) AvgHelper: https://rainverse.wiki/wiki/Category:Transgender_characters and fam are plural, so we should probs match those
- (link) BlankEclair: fellas what demi-human subspecies can be pluralized and non-pluralized
- (link) BlankEclair: {"Skyfolk", "Nereid", "Kitsune", "Bastet", "Hybrid"}
here's the list - (link) BlankEclair: can you give me their plural versions lol
- (link) AvgHelper: "Hybrid" for sure can be written "Hybrids" I think
- (link) AvgHelper: The others... Skyfolk and Kitsune are probs their own plural
- (link) BlankEclair: but the rest i'm unsure
- (link) AvgHelper: Idk about Bastet or Nereid
- (link) BlankEclair: it's like trying to gender an androgynous person
- (link) AvgHelper: XD
- (link) AvgHelper: Imma go check the discord. Surely we aren't the first to ask this..
- (link) AvgHelper: we might be the first on the discord to ask this, but word from Lynn:
The plural are:
humans, nereids, hybrids, skyfolk, kitsune, and bastet. - (link) BlankEclair: huh cool ty
- (link) AvgHelper: She also says:
I won't be mad or feel the need to correct anyone if they say "bastets" or something, but it's not how I'll say it.
- (link) BlankEclair: i mean, yeah, makes sense
- (link) BlankEclair: but my ability to detect the plural versions just broke when i saw the subspecies lol
- (link) BlankEclair: i figure we don't need to cite plurals lol
- (link) AvgHelper: hmm... would be good to list the plural forms at least. I'll throw them on, but it'd be nice to have some proper citation for them eventually

As discussed in the Rainverse Wiki Matrix room:
- (link) 1something: Oops
- (link) BlankEclair: (In reply to "Oops") it's from the ryan, the totally normal guy entry(This message was ๐คฃ-ed by 1something)
- (link) 1something: Would it be possible to override it to say "Happy Birthday to Ryan, the Totally Normal Guy?"
- (link) BlankEclair: it uses the full name parameter, but i can make it use the page name
- (link) BlankEclair: or i can hardcode an exception if we really wanted to :p
- (link) BlankEclair: hmm, it appears that the only case of newest full name not being equal to the page title of Ryan, the Totally Normal Guy: https://rainverse.wiki/wiki/Special:CargoQuery?tables=characters&fields=_pageName%2C+newest_full_name%2C+birthdate%2C+birth_month_and_day%2C+pronouns%2C+gender&where=_pageName+!%3D+newest_full_name
- (link) BlankEclair: we probably could get away with just using the page title if we wanted to
- (link) AvgHelper: (In reply to "Would it be possible to override it...") What if we removed his birthday property?
- (link) AvgHelper: Or maybe add a property that like excludes a given character from birthday celebrations(This message was ๐-ed by 1something)
- (link) AvgHelper: Come to think of it... do we want salty birthday celebrations? Like for Markus specifically
- (link) 1something: I am okay with it either way, but I'd lean against birthday banners for non-canon characters like Ryan the Totally Normal Guy.
- (link) AvgHelper: For sure
- (link) 1something: If we exclude Marcus then we have to figure out where the line is as to which characters are "bad enough" to not get a birthday celebration. Does Todd count? Sure, he's an asshole, but he's also a teenager with a lot of room for growth (as several characters note when he leaves the story). There are just a handful of obviously unambiguously evil characters, like Marcus, Norman, Quinten, Carol (do we know her birthday?), Chase, and the unseen parents.
- (link) AvgHelper: Fair enough
- (link) AvgHelper: Cake for all, then
- (link) BlankEclair: (In reply to "Or maybe add a property...") so something like(This message was ๐-ed by AvgHelper)
auto celebrate birthday
?
that adds a boolean into the cargo table, and the code can filter by true

- (link) BlankEclair: for the sexual orientation field, should we say Heterosexual/Homosexual/etc... or Straight/Gay/etc...? i've been going for the former, but i figured that we should agree on a consistent format

i can have Infobox character automatically add the Wind-aligned, Unsealed, and Holo-human as needed, can i require that the alignment field must have values like these?
- ABC-aligned (unsealed)
- ABC-aligned (sealed)
- ABC-aligned
- (link) SpiltMilk68: I think an auto category would be a good idea. Though I suggest keeping "Holo-humans" and "Demi-humans" plural for the actual categories.
- (link) BlankEclair: sure, i could do that
- (link) SpiltMilk68: I think for the Character infobox alignment parameter, the format should be(This message was ๐-ed by AvgHelper)
<alignment> (status)
The status is optional if we don't know the character's alignment status yet though
Example: Spirit (sealed) - (link) BlankEclair: agreed since a "-aligned" suffix is a bit redundant. i'll wait for beth and average before codifying it in the documentation and having it automatically add applicable categories though
